Florida's jobless rate tumbles to 5.5 percent

Florida's unemployment rate fell two notches to 5.5 percent in June as the state added 7,000 jobs over the month. Though that marks the lowest rate in more than seven years, Florida still trails the national recovery. More at the Tampa Bay Times and Bright House Networks.

Chiquita Brands to move division headquarters to Fort Lauderdale

Produce giant Chiquita Brands is moving dozens of high-paying jobs and the headquarters for its banana division to Fort Lauderdale. The company also will move the headquarters for its Fresh Express division to Central Florida, near one of its biggest customers, Walt Disney World. More at the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Local bakeries worry egg shortage could force a hike in pastry prices

Since an avian influenza outbreak last year that wiped out nearly 50 million laying hens and turkeys in the Midwest — the largest since the 1980s — the price of eggs has skyrocketed. More at the Tampa Bay Times.
