Florida Senate revives push to help to pro sports teams

Three Florida professional sports teams and Daytona International Speedway may be getting millions from the state's taxpayers after all. The proposals would cost the state $255 million over the next two to three decades. It's not clear if the legislation will pass by the May 1 deadline. More at WFTV and the Florida Times-Union.

So it is creating an interactive map on its homepage to tell you how your home in any particular storm could be affected by strong winds, torrential rains, storm surge or flooding.

The Fort Lauderdale-based automotive retailer reported that its positive performance in the first quarter can be attributed to better sales in new and used vehicles. The company expects to reach 10 million vehicle sales in May, a feat the company says has never been achieved by its competitors. More at the South Florida Business Journal.

Controversy, speculation swirling around Brandon Walmart closing

Walmart is at the center of controversy and speculation after five of its stores suddenly closed last week, including one in Brandon. Nearly 430 Brandon employees were laid off, and 2,200 were let go nationwide. The closings have people buzzing and asking: Is it really all because of plumbing? More at the Tampa Bay Times.
