Cyber Monday likely to be busiest online sales day
Black Friday is a distant memory. Small Business Saturday is long gone. Now, it’s Cyber Monday’s turn. Cyber Monday, coined in 2005 by a shopping trade group that noticed a spike in online sales on the Monday after Thanksgiving when people returned to their work computers, is the next in a line of days that stores are counting on to jumpstart the holiday shopping season. Florida Icon: Sam Gibbons
On Oct. 5, five days before he died, former U.S. congressman and Florida legislator Sam Gibbons was interviewed by Florida Trend’s Art Levy. Gibbons, dealing with balance problems, sat in a wheelchair, but was otherwise strong and energetic during the nearly two-hour session. He spoke about growing up in Tampa, his role in the 1944 D-Day invasion, his friendship with John Kennedy and his career in public service, which included 34 years in the U.S. Congress and 10 years in the Florida Legislature. ‘App economy’ is sizzling with potential
Raymond Gonzalez, a Florida International University senior, is developing an iPhone application called Pet Finder that will allow users to browse the dogs and cats at the local animal shelter or request an animal for adoption. Whether he starts his own company or works for someone else, Gonzalez is preparing to be a player in a high-paying, sizzling new industry, one that might provide the United States with a big opportunity to increase its exports in coming years. Small businesses ponder the next four years
Now that the presidential election is over, small-business operators are focusing on what they can expect from a second term with Democratic President Barack Obama. Some are cautiously optimistic the economy will improve and their revenues will follow. Lawmakers say they’ll work together -- at least for now
