Mitch Lewandowski was a competitive cyclist and speed skater in his 20s. Today at 42, he rides for pleasure, fitness and to stay sharp on the job as U.S. managing director for Montag Windows and Doors. Lewandowski cycles three times a week on Key Biscayne with 50 other cyclists. They get started at 5 a.m. and ride for 40 miles each time out.
His bike is custom-made.

Home Work

Online fitness equipment retailer Smooth Fitness, based in Pennsylvania, says Florida is one of its stronger states thanks to the number of Baby Boomers, retirees and second-home owners. Since March, year-over-year sales have been up 10% to 20% consistently as people replace gym memberships with home workouts to save on fuel costs. The company says ellipticals are its most popular pieces. Smooth Fitness has five models ranging from $1,000 to $3,500. Its top-of-the-line elliptical is the Agile Dynamic Motion Trainer.

Walkstation
Price: $4,000 - $5,000
One of Perdue Office Interiors’ newest pieces is a combination treadmill and workstation. The Walkstation can be outfitted with a computer so employees can work while exercising — at a maximum speed of 2 mph. It is designed by Details, a Steelcase company, and the Mayo Clinic to promote fitness in the office place. “It doesn’t operate like a treadmill in a fitness center,” says Vince McCormack, president and CEO of the Jacksonville-based office furniture supplier. “It’s just to burn calories while you return e-mails or phone calls.” McCormack has had one installed for his employees. “From our standpoint, it lets our employees know we care about their wellness,” he says. Perdue has sold several in the six months the Walkstation has been on the market.
