Delivering healthy meals has become a $17-million business for Fresh Diet. The North Miami company, recently No. 14 on Forbes' "Most Promising Companies" list, delivers three healthy meals and two snacks a day to customers in major metro areas such as Miami, New York and Los Angeles, at an average price of $30 a day. Although CEO Zalmi Duchman founded the company in late 2005 to cater to dieters, today only about half of the company's customers are trying to lose weight, he says. The rest consider it a cost-effective, convenient way to eat healthy.

Backed by custom-developed technology and $2 million from private investors, Fresh Diet has grown to six kitchens covering about one-third of the U.S., plus Toronto. Duchman says the company reinvests its earnings. "If I decided that I do not want to grow anymore, I could be profitable," he says. "It's just that I continue to invest in technology. "
