» The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded the only stimulus grant it will give in Florida to the University of Central Florida Center for Public and Nonprofit Management. The $1-million award will help non-profits promote economic recovery for low-income residents. The Strengthening Communities in Central Florida Program will target non-profits in west Orange, south Lake and south Sumter counties that help communities with high unemployment and poverty.

» The Rollins College Philanthropy & Nonprofit Leadership Center is working with about a dozen area law firms in a pilot program that runs through Sept. 30. The Business Lawyers’ Pro Bono Project will help non-profits with legal assistance on governance, real estate, employment law, intellectual property, grants compliance, contract negotiation, tax advice, and merger and consolidation issues.
