Chief Priority - Charles T. Canady is Chief Justice-elect

Charles T. Canady (with his family) is sworn in as chief justice-elect.
Charles T. Canady has been named chief justice-elect of the Florida Supreme Court. Canady, a former state representative from Lakeland, will start his two-year term in July, when Chief Justice Peggy A. Quince’s term ends. Gov. Charlie Crist appointed Canady to the court in 2008.

Like Quince, Canady plans to lobby lawmakers to boost judiciary funding. “Court staff positions have been cut to bare-bones levels, and this has happened at a time when caseloads in some areas — especially foreclosures — have risen dramatically,” he says.
