Home sales in Sarasota/Bradenton are up 8% over 2010, matching the state average and exceeding neighboring areas of Punta Gorda (up 5%) and Tampa/St. Petersburg/Clearwater (up 6%). The median sales price, however, dropped 4% in 2011 to $152,000. Sales are strong in Lakewood Ranch — a planned community spanning Sarasota and Manatee counties — where Neal Communities sold 33 homes in January, 10 more than it sold in January 2011.
