BRADENTON — The FDIC has taken over Horizon Bank — $187.8 million in assets and
$164.6 million in deposits — costing the deposit insurance fund $58.9 million. Arkansas-based Bank of the Ozarks will assume the bank's assets and deposits.

BROOKSVILLE — The Small Business Development Center at the University of South Florida has opened a satellite office in Hernando County.

FORT MYERS — Boston-based Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing has acquired Impact Education, a Fort Myers educational software and classroom support company.

LAKEWOOD RANCH — Sanborn Studios plans to open a film and television production studio in Lakewood Ranch and another near the Sarasota Bradenton International Airport. The company plans to hire 117 people over the next three years.

NAPLES — A $1.66-million U.S. Customs Aviation Office is under construction at the Naples Municipal Airport. The 4,142-sq.-ft. facility will allow pilots flying from the Caribbean to land in Naples without first having to clear customs at airports in Miami, Fort Lauderdale or West Palm Beach.

NEW PORT RICHEY — The organization charged with redeveloping and promoting downtown New Port Richey has lost its funding. New Port Richey Main Street's request for $30,000 from the New Port Richey Community Redevelopment Agency was refused, leaving the group's future in doubt.

ODESSA — Nanotechnology firm Dais Analytic will get $680,000 from the U.S. Department of Energy to come up with new methods to save energy. The money is part of a $9.6-million grant distributed to six firms charged with improving the energy efficiency of air conditioners, solar power generators and electric machines.

ST. PETERSBURG — Humana Cares, a division of Humana that serves chronically ill patients, is expanding, resulting in 270 new jobs by the end of the year. The division opened in 2009 with 250 workers.

» City Council Chairman Leslie Curran suffered a serious head injury after she fell from her bicycle in August. Curran, 54, was wearing a helmet. A judge granted her 33-year-old daughter temporary guardianship while Curran recovers.

TAMPA — The $21-million Glazer Children's Museum has opened in downtown's Curtis Hixon Park. The museum is adjacent to the new Tampa Museum of Art, which moved into its new building in February.

» Weighing factors including unemployment, commute times, working hours, health and healthcare availability, Forbes.com has ranked Tampa as the nation's fourth-most stressful city. Miami ranked sixth and Las Vegas first.

TAMPA BAY — The Tampa Bay region finished last among six similarly sized regions in the 2010 Regional Economic Scorecard. The study, by the Tampa Bay Partnership's Center for Business Intelligence, found the region lacking in the jobs, housing, transportation and innovation categories compared to Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, Jacksonville and Raleigh-Durham. In the 2009 rankings, Tampa Bay finished third.
