Many of the calls and e-mails that come into my office ask the same basic question: How can we get more coverage in Florida Trend for our company, our innovations and our people. In truth, there are many ways to interact with Florida Trend. Here are some key paths:

1 Best Companies — Each August, Florida Trend publishes feature stories about the best workplaces in Florida. We hire a nationally recognized firm to collect data from the companies and survey their employees to determine what makes a workplace stand out.

The process is free, but you have to register and request that your company be included. The Best Companies survey is open to any workplace in Florida that has at least 15 employees, whether based here or not. A top executive or human resources official must submit the registration.

Our vendor will ask for information about your company's employment practices. And employees will be sent a survey to provide their anonymous input. There are many advantages to participation, such as building employee morale, improving recruiting and a receiving a free employer benchmark report. Please go to BestCompaniesFL.com to register.

2 Floridian of the Year — In January, we'll publish our second annual Floridian of the Year issue, picking a successor to Miami Dade College President Eduardo Padrón. This selection is not a lifetime achievement award but instead names the individual who our editors believe had the greatest influence in Florida during the past year. Send your nominations to Mark Howard at mhoward@FloridaTrend.com, by mid-November.

3 Legal Elite — The state has a large and influential legal community. Each July, Florida Trend publishes a compilation of the state's top lawyers as selected by their peers. Only members of the Florida Bar are eligible to vote. Lawyers may vote for members of their own firm but must vote for an equal number of attorneys who are employed elsewhere. Ballots now are available, and we encourage each Bar member to vote by visiting FloridaTrend.com/LegalEliteVote11. Balloting closes Dec. 3.

4 Story Ideas — Our editors are voracious readers and busy travelers. But they can't see and hear everything of note. So please do us a favor by contacting Florida Trend with story ideas at any time. We want to know of companies worth a special profile, new business developments, a "trend" story that you see developing or executives of particular achievement.
