"Investing in companies is returning to normal after being very depressed in 2009 and early 2010. That makes everyone involved in biotech development very encouraged. The large biotech companies and large multinational pharmaceutical companies are definitely in a mode for licensing, partnerships and acquisitions. They have a great deal of cash on hand."

A study from the UF Sid Martin Biotechnology Incubator found more dollars — $143 million — were invested in Florida in the biomedical sector, including life sciences and healthcare services, in the third quarter of 2010 than in all of 2009 and that biomedical funding has increased faster in the state (24%) than nationally (4.7%).
