» Max Planck Florida Institute in Jupiter appointed brain scientist David Fitzpatrick CEO. He also becomes director of its cortical circuit function department. Fitzpatrick formerly was a neurobiology professor at Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, N.C., and founding director of the Duke Institute for Brain Sciences. Fitzpatrick’s wife, McLean Bolton, formerly a research assistant professor in Duke’s pediatric neurology division, joins Max Planck to lead a research group on neural circuit disorders. The addition of Fitzpatrick and Bolton brings the institute to nine scientists in Jupiter.

» First Bank of the Palm Beaches named Joseph B. “Jay” Shearouse III president and CEO. Shearouse spent 28 years at Fidelity Bank & Trust. The bank also appointed former Fidelity executives John Ahrenholz senior vice president and COO, Steve Eassa senior vice president and chief lending officer and Brian Mahoney CFO. Cindy Sheppard, a veteran of Community Savings of North Palm Beach, was named vice president and operations officer.
