Friday's Afternoon Update

The ripple effect of Brexit in Florida

Trade, travel and real estate in Florida are just three areas that will be impacted after Britain voted to exit the EU today. Examples: As the British pound drops, traveling from England to Florida will become more expensive. The value of the Euro compared to the U.S. dollar is likely to fall as well. Because of this, Floridians who travel abroad will find better deals. In terms of real estate, downturns in British investment in Florida may be mitigated because the market has gotten stronger. In terms of trade, Jerry Parrish, chief economist for the Florida Chamber Foundation, said, "Imports from the U.K. should now become cheaper. Currently, Florida imports twice as much as it exports to the U.K." Analysis from the Florida Chamber is here. Also read more at the Tampa Bay Times.
