For 35 years, Pritikin Longevity Center + Spa has had two main purposes: Returning patients to health and getting them off medications. The all-inclusive program includes lectures and seminars, a personalized exercise regimen and a menu of fitness and educational options that range from handson cooking classes to yoga, kickboxing and Zumba, all under the supervision of boardcertified physicians.

Down to business:

Pritikin’s executive physical program is specifically geared to busy professionals who are run-down and stressed out. “Guests who sign up for this all-inclusive program receive personalized VIP treatment and streamlined care during their stay”— which is a minimum of two nights — “and have access to our wellness experts and physicians,” says Jennifer Weinberg, the center’s market project leader. “We see guests who do not get enough sleep or have trouble sleeping and are constantly ‘plugged in,’ which can lead to stress, as well as patients who feel like they don’t have enough down time.”

Come one, come all:

The center also offers corporate health retreats and team building, meant to help teams learn to get and stay healthy, in turn boosting office morale and resulting in fewer sick days for the staff. Each corporate retreat is custom designed, and length of stay generally ranges from three days to two weeks.

“We have executive clients who come in on an annual basis regardless of how they feel,” says Jennifer Bryan, program director of Monsour Executive Wellness Center, which launched four years ago. “This yearly ‘once over’ keeps them on top of their health and provides peace of mind.” The center also get clients who feel as though something is a little “off.” Those patients undergo blood tests, screenings and exams administered by USF Health specialists. Last year, a major renovation resulted in additional space and a setting that was designed to have a more spa-like ambience.

One stop: Because of its affiliation with USF Health, Monsour has access to 450 physicians, allowing a client to be evaluated by a family practice doctor, dermatologist, cardiologist, radiologist, audiologist, ophthalmologist, orthopedic and/ or sports medicine specialist all in one visit. A “concierge” coordinates everything.

The psychological aspect: “The physician conducting the client’s executive physical also evaluates his or her psychological health, addressing stress levels, mood disorders and whether clients are getting adequate sleep, as these factors often contribute to one’s overall health and well being,” says Bryan. “We are seeing an increased number of corporations offering executive physicals to their leadership team as an incentive and also to improve performance.”

After years of treating patients with various ailments at his chiropractic office, Dr. Michael Goldin says he began noticing more career-driven patients coming in run-down, depressed and looking older than their years. What good is financial success, he asked himself, if you don’t have the mental and physical health to reap its benefits? Goldin founded Elite Health Center, which offers a program of hormone replacement therapy, nutrition and exercise.

Everything to gain (except weight): Goldin says patients see increases in energy levels throughout the day, more lean muscle, decreased body fat, better results from exercise.

The timetable: “We have witnessed our patients reinvent themselves in a matter of weeks under our care,” Goldin says.
