An investigation into the mysterious appearance of an African crocodile in the Everglades has come up empty, with a DNA analysis failing to prove the formidable predator had escaped from the grounds of a nearby breeder.

The crocodile was captured in March after a long search, cornered and netted in a canal on the eastern edge of Everglades National Park.
