Home sales reached 6½-year high in August
U.S. home sales rose last month to the highest level since February 2007 as buyers rushed to close deals before interest rates increased further. Sales of previously occupied homes rose 1.7 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.48 million in August, the National Association of Realtors said Thursday. Florida Supreme Court asked to overturn FPL rate hike
The Florida Supreme Court is being asked to overturn a rate hike approved for the state's largest utility. The court held oral arguments Thursday on whether regulators should have approved an increase for Florida Power & Light Co. that could add charges to monthly bills over the next three years. Port Canaveral gives preliminary OK for new terminal site
Port commissioners gave preliminary approval for a site near Port Canaveral’s Cove restaurants to build a new cruise terminal and parking garage complex that would be able to handle the largest cruise ships. More at Florida Today.
Long airport waits cost economy
The U.S. Travel Association argued that long lines and delays to enter the country could cost the economy more than $12 billion a year and thousands of jobs. That’s both because of money not being spent during the wait in line — $416 million — as well as $11.8 billion in potential spending lost because travelers decided against coming to the U.S. because of the entry process.
