SmartBox: Cashless vending machines

Brandon Stallings launched SmartBox last year while living at his parents’ Jacksonville home. His idea was to build cashless vending machines that sold healthy snacks. A year later, he has SmartBoxes in dozens of offices, schools and gyms. SmartBox recently signed an agreement to place its machines in 17 YMCA gyms. The machine accepts credit and debit cards as well as mobile phone payments. Stallings says his brands include Sweet Leaf Tea and Pirate’s Booty. “It’s less fat, less sugar and less calories,” he says. The company employs five. Stallings declined to disclose SmartBox’s revenue but says sales double every month. “We have made more in the past two months than we ever have before that,” Stallings says.
