-- Susan Baewer
Families seeking help from the food pantry at Journey Assembly of God in East Bradenton have walked away with a grocery bag full of bread, meat and canned goods. But one popular staple has been missing.
“I haven't had peanut butter for three months,” said Susan Baewer, a pantry volunteer. “That's a staple for a homeless person or families. It's a quick protein. It's sustaining.”
The missing peanut butter is a sign of a larger problem. The Food Bank of Manatee is experiencing a food shortage.
