Tired of going out of state to find programmers for his Pragmatic Works software company, Brian Knight is starting a training school in Jacksonville to teach the .NET programming language used by Microsoft. Opening in September, the Vivo School of Technology in downtown Jacksonville will charge $9,900 for an 18-week course. Knight says scholarships will be available.

This isn’t Knight’s first foray into worker training — he started the Pragmatic Works Foundation several years ago to offer free IT training. “The effort to find technical talent, STEM talent, has become so arduous now and costs us tens of thousands of dollars to find a person,” Knight says. He believes graduates of the Vivo school will be able to find work as junior developers earning $45,000 a year in Jacksonville.

The company’s revenue grew 130% last year to $15 million.
