French aerospace supplier brings jobs to Melbourne
Florida Gov. Rick Scott and Lynda Weatherman, president and chief executive officer of the Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast, this morning announced that a Lyon, France, aerospace supplier is opening its first U.S. subsidiary in Melbourne. UCF rates high in new teacher-college rankings
One of the University of Central Florida's teacher-education programs made the "honor roll" in a new national review, and UCF was one of just 13 institutions nationally to earn top ratings for at least two of its teacher-prep programs. UCF was the only Florida institution to rank so high in the review of more than 1,000 teacher-education programs across the nation. More at the Orlando Sentinel.
Daytona International Speedway to get major overhaul
International Speedway Corp., which owns Daytona and 12 other NASCAR tracks, announced approval Tuesday for a project that will dramatically overhaul the frontstretch at the "World Center of Racing." The construction will cost between $375 and $400 million and is expected to be completed prior to the 2016 Daytona 500. More at Florida Today.
Gov. Scott gains ground in new poll, still trails former Gov. Crist
Gov. Rick Scott's poll numbers are showing signs of progress, but he would still lose to former Gov. Charlie Crist by 10 points if the 2014 election were held today, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll. Still one of America's least popular governors, Scott trails Crist 47 percent to 37 percent in a face-off between the Republican governor and his possible now-Democratic rival. Will Miss USA pageant move to Doral?
The glitz, glamor and swimsuits of the Miss USA beauty pageant may be returning to steamy South Florida. Donald Trump, who owns the pageant and recently invested $250 million to renovate the Doral Golf Resort and Spa, told the Miami Herald on Monday that it’s “a real possibility” that the 61-year-old pageant would be held at the resort next summer.
