Survey: Employers want broadly educated new hires

Students worried about landing a job after graduation might be attracted to a narrow education that focuses on building their knowledge in one area. But that isn't enough to help them pursue successful careers, according to the Association of American Colleges and Universities. The group released its latest survey of employers on Wednesday, and it is using the findings to bolster a new compact between college presidents and employers that advocates a broad, liberal-arts education for all. South Florida home prices high relative to income

Just as South Florida’s housing market is steaming ahead, new data from Zillow raise a troubling trend that has been masked by low interest rates. South Florida's PrimeTime Amusements got a piece of action at WWE's Wrestlemania 29 in New Jersey a few days ago. The Fort Lauderdale company best known for renting and selling arcade machines had a hand in creating a replica of the Statue of Liberty for the set of the April 7 pay-per-view wrestling event.

The statue was displayed before more than 80,000 fans at the MetLife Stadium as the event was broadcast in more than 100 countries.

The 2013 Atlantic hurricane season should be significantly busier than normal, with 18 named storms, including nine hurricanes, with four of those being major. NFL could contribute $150 million toward Miami Dolphins’ stadium renovation

The National Football League could contribute $150 million toward the Miami Dolphins’ proposed stadium renovation, lowering the direct costs to the team for the estimated $350 million project, according to a county report released Tuesday. Miami-Dade officials see the NFL and Dolphins contributions as coming from the same pot of private money, which would account for about 55 percent of the costs and leave the county paying about a third. Horse Riding Therapy

condoA pioneering research effort that uses horses to help wounded veterans readjust to society has found a long-term home in Osceola County. The University of Central Florida, Heavenly Hoofs equine-therapy group and county leaders have agreed on a deal to establish a riding venue at Ralph V. Chisholm Park in Narcoossee, near St. Cloud. The county will invest just over $900,000 to build a large barn with 20 stalls, a covered riding area, parking, trails and other amenities. Except for the stables, the new facilities also will be available for public use.
