Charter schools gaining market share in Florida
Charter schools are an increasingly popular choice in Florida, as more students leave the traditional classroom. More than 200,000 students are currently enrolled in 574 charter schools in Florida. Charters can be found in 44 Florida districts. More at StateImpact Florida.
Sandy could impact Spirit Q4 revenue
Spirit Airlines estimates that the revenue impact of Hurricane Sandy on the fourth quarter will be between $30 million and $35 million. During October, Spirit cancelled 136 flights, or 19.9 million available seat miles – approximately 2.2 percent of the month's scheduled capacity. More at the South Florida Business Journal.

US retail sales drop 0.3 percent in October
Americans cut back on spending at retail businesses in October, an indication that some remain cautious about the economic outlook. Superstorm Sandy also depressed car sales and slowed business in the Northeast at the end of the month. More at the AP.
How to make the time for giving back
American workers are finding ways to participate in volunteering, even as their work hours increase. Among men and women in professional and managerial positions, a whopping 38 percent of men and 14 percent of women worked 50 hours or more per week in 2011. At the same time, the volunteer rate rose by 0.5percentage point to 26.8 percent for the year. More at the Miami Herald.
