Virginia Beach, Va.-based Metro Information Services, a provider of temporary employees, plans to add 65 jobs at its Jacksonville office this year. The temps provide computer programming and consulting services, earning salaries of $35,000 to $100,000 per year.

Compass Bancshares of Birmingham, Ala., signed a letter of intent to acquire Jacksonville-based CFB Bancorp and its subsidiary Community First Bank. Compass would exchange about $43 million of its common stock for all outstanding common stock of CFB Bancorp. After the acquisition, Compass Bancshares will have 38 branches and $919 million of assets in Florida.

Jacksonville's AccuStaff Inc. purchased Troy, Mich.-based HR Management Services, a provider of employment services. In a separate deal, the temporary staffing and outsourcing company announced that it signed an agreement to acquire GW Consulting in San Francisco, Calif., another provider of employment services. AccuStaff also agreed to acquire Career Enhancement International, which is based in Winter Park and provides staffing solutions for companies with computer software and information technology needs.
