Calendar Notes 2007

Publishing a monthly magazine means we're always working about a month or more in advance of the date you see on the front cover. So about the time football season starts in the fall, we're finalizing our plans for the upcoming year. You'll see the results of that planning in the 2007 Editorial Planning Calendar -- an integral part of our new Media Kit that will be available in late October.

One change you'll notice in our lineup of scheduled features is that our monthly "Small Business" column has evolved into "Entrepreneur," reflecting the fact that Florida Trend subscribers work for dynamic, growing companies and organizations. Our most recent subscriber survey shows that almost six in 10 of our subscribers work for companies or organizations with fewer than 100 employees in Florida. And we also know that you're very busy: Four in 10 subscribers report that your company plans to expand its facilities in Florida in the next 24 months.

The monthly "Executive Lifestyles" feature, which we inaugurated in 2002, also has grown in response to your positive feedback and results from the subscriber study. Nearly eight in 10 of you attend theater, live music and dance performances, 73% visit museums and 68% attend sporting events, so many of the topics we've chosen to cover in 2007 reflect your culturally and physically active lives: Outdoor sports in January, historical hangouts in September and executive workouts in November are just a few.

And because we've all become more interested in ways to improve our health and the health of our employees, our "Executive Health" column will cover those concerns from head to toe. Next year we'll be taking a look at trends in prostate and breast cancer prevention, anti-aging advances, executive health assessments and many more topics.

Our subscriber study also confirmed that Florida Trend subscribers frequently dine out and travel for business and personal reasons:

  • Three-fourths dine out 10 or more times in a typical month. The average is 18.8 times a month.
  • Eight in 10 took at least one round trip in Florida in the last 12 months; 35% took 10 or more. The average is 10.5 trips.
  • Our subscribers spent an average of 27.7 nights in resorts or hotels in the last 12 months.

In this December's issue, you'll find special Florida Trend features with the information and recommendations you want and need for your business and personal travel and dining. It's a powerpacked month with special sections featuring Luxury Real Estate, our annual Guide to Meetings and Conferences and the annual Florida CEO Trends survey. Subscribers will also receive (as a bonus) the 2007 edition of The Great Florida Restaurant Guide along with the December issue. I'm especially looking forward to seeing the new "Reader Favorites" section with your favorite restaurants in a dozen categories.

One of most exciting offerings next year isn't on the planning calendar, but you'll be hearing much more about it in the next few months. And that's the new FloridaTrend.com. We plan to launch our totally new website by the end of this year, and you can expect some major changes designed to keep pace with your increasing use of the internet. With an easy-to-use search engine to give you access to content from Florida Trend as well as our custom publications (translated into Spanish), you'll be amazed at what's going to be available. Our virtual community -- with free weekly industry newsletters and unique daily content -- will allow you to "feel the pulse" of Florida every day.
