Florida is a large, dynamic and globally competitive economy. Diversification of Florida’s economy for leadership in the global innovation economy with high-wage, high value-added economic growth is a priority for Enterprise Florida, the state’s statewide private-public partnership for economic development.
Guided by Florida’s statewide strategic plan for economic development, Roadmap to Florida’s Future, and the Governor’s Blueprint for Innovation, Florida remains at the forefront of the innovation economy, from world-class talent to a sustainable quality of life.
Florida’s industry clusters, including life sciences, information technology, aviation and aerospace, homeland security and defense, financial and professional services and clean energy, are characterized by innovation, talent, global markets and an unbeatable quality of life which makes our Sunshine State such a great place to live. Florida Economic Development Council
Today’s economic development practitioners in Florida know it is not “business as usual” but business based on: (1) innovative ways to keep existing businesses thriving and growing, and (2) keeping up with knowledge and best practices to identify and attract new businesses and industries to Florida’s communities. By doing so, we give our residents, students and children compelling reasons to stay, become educated and work in Florida.
The Florida Economic Development Council (FEDC), a not-for-profit association of more than 500 professional economic developers, workforce, education and related industry representatives, gives its members the opportunity to develop and maintain a highly skilled network of Florida economic development professionals; stay current with state economic development programs; seek improved ways to practice economic development; receive recognition from the economic development community for their work; and have an active voice in state economic development policy.
In our current economy, now more than ever, it is important to continue to support the work of economic development and to educate our communities about its benefits. The positive impact economic development has is far reaching and felt on a daily basis by every person who lives in our state.
