Martin County students recorded the highest SAT scores and the largest percentage of AP exams graded 3 or higher in the region, but the county also had many fewer students taking the exams than either Broward or Palm Beach counties. In Martin, 818 12th-graders took the SAT, compared with 9,805 in Broward and 6,160 in Palm Beach. In St. Lucie County, 851 12th-graders took the SAT; in Indian River County, 513; and in Okeechobee County, 154. In Martin County, 1,066 11th and 12th-graders took Advanced Placement exams, compared with 12,110 in Broward and 8,865 in Palm Beach. In Indian River County, 541 students took AP exams; in St. Lucie, 969; and in Okeechobee, 91.
