» Col. Alfred A. Pantano Jr. was named commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Jacksonville District, which oversees all federal water projects in Florida, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. That puts him in charge of the Corps’ beach renourishment projects statewide, as well as Everglades restoration. He replaced Col. Paul L. Grosskruger, who retired after 26 years of military service.
