Brooksville — The Hernando County School Board and Superintendent Wayne Alexander have come to a “mutual decision” for Alexander to leave his $132,745 a year job. Alexander still had nearly one year left on his contract.

Bonita Springs —?Members of the Shadow Wood Country Club and the Brooks Commons Club have agreed to buy the golf courses from the Bonita Bay Group for $8.3 million.

Dade City — Pasco County commissioners will give $270,000 to a consultant to market, design and figure out where to build a sports complex using bed-tax money.

Hillsborough County — Strawberries continue to be the county’s top crop, valued at $316 million in 2008. Ornamental plants rank second at $181 million. Vegetables account for $138 million.

Palmetto —?Port Manatee’s 10-year, $150-million expansion is nearing completion with a final component, a $2.1-million dredging project, set to start soon.

St. Petersburg — Kentucky-based ResCare will operate the $31-million Pinellas County Job Corps Center, set to open this fall in the city’s Midtown district. The center will employ 120 and train more than 300 students each year.

» Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate has purchased Tourtelot Brothers, an 80-year old real estate firm.

Tampa — A U.S. District Court jury has found Hillsborough County Commissioner Kevin White guilty of sexual discrimination. White was ordered to pay Alyssa Ogden, a former aide, $75,000 in damages.

» Lex Salisbury, former director of the Lowry Park Zoo, has agreed to pay the zoo more than $2,000 to settle accusations that he misused funds. Salisbury must also return fences and barns that the zoo built on property he owns in Polk County.

Tampa Bay— Former NFL linebacker Shelton Quarles, chairman of the Tampa Bay Area Regional Transportation Authority for two years, has asked not to be reappointed to devote more time to his front office job with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.


» The latest effort to repair and reopen the Friendship Trail Bridge, which spans Tampa Bay and links Hillsborough and Pinellas counties, has failed. Hillsborough County commissioners voted to seek $20 million in federal stimulus money to fix the crumbling bridge, a once-popular trail for walkers, runners and bicyclists, but Pinellas commissioners prefer the bridge be demolished.
