Survey: Reasons Behind No Pro Bono

Florida attorneys are asked to provide at least 20 hours of pro bono work each year, but just over half of them (52%) actually do it. According to 2008 survey, here are the reasons cited:

» Lack of time —?64%
» Family obligations — 48%
» Lack of expertise in practice areas needed by pro bono clients — 45%
» Lack of malpractice insurance — 35%
» Lack of administrative support or resources —?33%
» Competing billable hours expectations —?32%
» Government/public interest job provides sufficient public service — 31%
» Government job does not allow pro bono work —?28%
» Made a contribution to a legal aid group — 25%
» Would negatively affect compensation/salary —?17%
» Lack of information about pro bono opportunities — 16%
» Lack of desire — 12%
