Southeast - Transition: Wackenhut Becomes G4S

| 6/1/2010

Company founder George Wackenhut and his son, Richard Wackenhut, in 1997.
G4S Wackenhut, the U.S. subsidiary of U.K.-based G4S, is changing its name to G4S Secure Solutions USA, a name that reflects a series of acquisitions in technology, investigative, consulting and risk management. Dropping the Wackenhut name is a milestone. The company’s lineage traces to the late George Wackenhut, an FBI agent who started a private investigative agency in 1954 in Coral Gables that he made into a global security company. He sold to a Danish company in 2002 that merged in 2004 with a U.K.-based firm to create G4S.
