Lawsuit challenges education amendment on Florida ballot

Florida has the third-most charter schools of any state, and a constitutional amendment on its November ballot would give the industry new paths to expand. The problem, according to a lawsuit filed July 12 by the League of Women Voters of Florida, is that the six words in the measure that affect charters don’t convey the real meaning behind that portion of Amendment 8. “The Amendment 8 language is blatantly, and unconstitutionally, misleading,” said Patricia M. Brigham, president of the League of Women Voters of Florida. See the complaint filed by the League, here. Also read more at The Bond Buyer, the Tampa Bay Times and Florida Politics.
