Gov. Rick Scott launches campaign to unseat Sen. Bill Nelson

Calling Washington "horribly dysfunctional," Florida Gov. Rick Scott is challenging U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in an election that could be one of the most expensive and highly-watched races in the nation. “I’m going to run for the U.S. Senate representing the great state of Florida,” Scott announced Monday in Orlando. “This is going to be a lot of fun.” More from the AP and the Tampa Bay Times.

As Florida dramatically slashes arts funding, theaters and museums scramble

In 2017, the state allowed $25 million for arts projects. This year, it dropped to $2.6 million — nearly 90 percent less. Those funds will be split among 489 organizations approved through the state’s Department of Cultural Affairs. More from the Tampa Bay Times.

Industry Profile
Welcome to 'Water World'

Florida tourism isn’t just the “House of the Mouse” and 663 miles of beaches. Floating resorts, each the size of three football fields in length, are propelling an industry that is a bigger moneymaker than the state’s theme parks and recreational offerings. All the hotel rooms in the state cannot generate enough cash to match what the big three cruise lines rake in.

Fed up with Miami traffic, he commutes with dolphins and pelicans

florida originalsParker Lake got sick of the rat race. Sick of working in a cubicle. Sick of commuting on Miami’s mean streets. Sick of being overweight from sitting at a desk or in traffic jams. So Lake quit his unfulfilling job, sold his car and moved to a house on the Little River. Road warrior no more, he paddles to two new jobs on a stand-up paddleboard.
