Florida schools and colleges close ahead of Hurricane Irma

With Hurricane Irma churning toward Florida, a number of Florida school districts and counties -- from Miami to the Tampa Bay Area to Central Florida and as far north as Duval County -- have decided to close ahead of the storm. Florida schools compete for $51.5 million in Schools of Hope money

When state lawmakers passed House Bill 7069 this spring, they enacted a program allowing failing traditional schools to apply for up to $2,000 per student.
