Army Corps weighs in on Florida-Georgia water war

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, a key player in Florida’s decades-old legal fight with Georgia over water flow in the Apalachicola River, has weighed into the pending case before the U.S. Supreme Court. More from the Lakeland Ledger and WUSF.

Morris Publishing sells Florida Times-Union and St. Augustine Record to GateHouse Media

As part of a strategic restructuring to focus its business on lifestyle publications, property development and new business, Morris Communications Co. announced today that it has signed an agreement to sell the assets of Morris Publishing Group, including the Florida Times-Union and the St. Augustine Record, to GateHouse Media. Half-finished and half-gutted, Miami Beach Convention Center renovation has one year left

Right now, it’s the tale of two halves in the $600 million renovation of Miami Beach Convention Center. The two exhibition halls fronting Washington Avenue are air-conditioned cavernous spaces with fresh new floors. The two halls on the west side are skeletal dirt-floor rooms buzzing with construction workers. More from the Miami Herald.

International drone trade group launches its first South Florida chapter

The Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International, one of the world’s largest nonprofit organizations devoted to advancing drone and robotics technology, has launched a chapter in South Florida as the segment continues to gain traction beyond hobbyists. Florida water regulators approve big permits for pulp mills

The St. Johns River Water Management District, the state’s water regulator for Central and North Florida,  renewed permits Tuesday for two of Florida’s biggest industrial consumers of aquifer water. The decision clears the way for the WestRock CP LLC mill to pump 21.9 million gallons daily and the Rayonier Performance Fibers LLC mill to pump 16.8 million gallons a day.
