Fighting for Florida's Future

| 4/21/2017

Dear Entrepreneur:

Florida’s economy has completely turned around during the past six years because of our unrelenting focus on cutting taxes, reducing burdensome regulations and creating an environment where job creators can grow and succeed. As governor, I have the opportunity to travel our great state and meet hardworking Florida business owners and the many visitors from all over the world who support our state’s growing economy.

From startups, to small businesses, to global corporations, Florida’s hardworking businesses have added more than 1.34 million jobs since December 2010. While this is a great achievement, we cannot stop there. We have to fight for Florida’s future and ensure our children and grandchildren have the opportunity to succeed in our great state.

Since 2011, more than 1 million people have moved to Florida because of our great schools, friendly business climate and beautiful weather. To continue fostering an environment where job creators can grow and succeed in our state, our “Fighting for Florida’s Future” budget includes a total of $618 million in tax cuts while making strategic investments in areas that are important to families.

To help small businesses, our “Fighting for Florida’s Future” budget calls for a tax cut on commercial leases by 25% in 2018. Small businesses carry the burden of this unfair tax on the spaces they rent, and Florida is the only state that has it. This tax cut would save Florida businesses like yours $454 million a year so Floridians can reinvest in their businesses and communities.

You have my best wishes for your greatest success. We will continue to do all we can to secure a bright future for Florida by diversifying the economy and supporting business growth so we can make Florida the global destination for jobs.

Honorable Rick Scott
Governor, State of Florida
Chairman, Enterprise Florida

Gov. Rick Scott recognized Javi’s Salsa with the Governor’s Business Ambassador Award in February 2017. President and founder Javier Navi started the family-owned business in 2010 with his wife and children in the Tampa Bay area. With the help of Florida SBDC at Hillsborough County, Javi’s Salsa has earned shelf space in grocery stores throughout Florida.

“It’s an honor to receive the Business Ambassador Award. My family and I started Javi’s Salsa based on my mother’s recipe, and it’s great to carry on a family tradition and share with others throughout the state. I’m grateful for our success so far, and I look forward to continuing our growth in Florida.”

The Governor’s Business Ambassador Award is given to businesses in recognition of their efforts to create new jobs and opportunities for Florida families.
