Dueling hands: Legislators on collision course over gambling

Florida legislators are on a collision course over what kind of gambling should be allowed in the state. House and Senate panels on Thursday approved dueling bills that would either "freeze" gambling as it now exists or allow slot machines to be installed in counties where it's not currently allowed. Report: Undocumented immigrants contribute $437 million to South Florida economy

Undocumented immigrants contribute $437 million to South Florida’s economy, according to a new report Thursday by Florida International University’s Research Institute on Social and Economic Policy. Undocumented immigrants also contribute nearly $107 million to the Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford area. Feds renew crackdown on dirty money in Florida real estate

After months of "will-they-or-won't-they" speculation, the U.S. Treasury Department announced Thursday that it will extend its search for dirty money in six high-end real estate markets, including South Florida, for another six months. [Source: Miami Herald]
