University of Florida applications hit a record high

Applications to the University of Florida reached a new record this year, with more than 34,000 prospective students vying for admission during the summer and fall semesters of 2017. This year’s total application number – 34,553 – represents a nearly 8 percent increase over last year’s total of 32,026. More at Florida Trend.

Boomers fuel surge in Southwest Florida home starts

Housing starts bounced at a 20 percent clip in Southwest Florida last year, but analysts say the baby boomer-driven demand still outpaces the supply of new homes. Builders broke ground on 5,591 new single-family homes in the region in 2016. More from the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.

Carnival Paradise to sail to Cuba from Tampa
