After layoffs, Ringling company vies for millions in job creation

The parent company of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey can still collect up to $3.7 million from state and local government for job creation even after it announced one of the state's largest layoffs since 2015. The closing of Feld Entertainment's "The Greatest Show on Earth" means 462 people have lost jobs -- and many of those are Floridians. It's the sixth-largest job elimination in Florida in the past two years. In spite of this setback, Feld can still collect millions for job creattion because the company classifies 400 of the lost jobs as "based on the road." [Source: Times/Herald]

Chiquita terminates lease at Port Everglades

Fresh produce giant Chiquita Fresh America LLC plans to terminate its lease at Port Everglades in Florida, but it will use another terminal there for shipping. Chiquita has leased the space since moving its receiving operations from the Port of Miami in 2003. Full story from the Packer, here.

Florida workers compensation a dividing issue

The fallout from the Florida workers’ compensation rate hike is only just beginning and the posturing early on from stakeholders will help shape the collective response.
