Florida private sector job growth picks up in September

Florida added 18,800 private sector jobs in September, a pickup from a month earlier and a strong sign the economic recovery is still chugging along, according to a report released Wednesday morning. More from the Tampa Bay Times.

Federal judge extends Florida's voter registration by a week to Oct. 18

U.S. District Judge Mark Walker ordered the extension of Florida's voter registration by one week, until next Tuesday, because of Hurricane Matthew. "No right is more precious than having a voice in our elections," Walker said Wednesday during a 40-minute hearing in a Tallahassee courtroom. More from the Tampa Bay Times and CNN.

Matthew death toll in Florida climbs to 9

 

Florida officials say nine deaths are now blamed on Hurricane Matthew. The state's tally includes two deaths in Miami-Dade County, one each in Orange, Putnam and Duval counties and four in Volusia County. More from the AP.

Lake County's wages, jobs soaring, officials say

Lake County’s economy continues to improve, enjoying near-record job and wage growth as well as solid drops in unemployment, according to county officials. “Although the economic outlook may not be rosy for other parts of the country, it remains positive for Florida and Lake County,” Commission Chairman Sean Parks said on Tuesday.
