In the battleground states of Florida, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, which represent a combined 67 electoral votes, the doom and gloom espoused by the candidates about declining jobs figures is not entirely consistent with reality. More from Fast Company.

Strong economy boosts Florida home prices

Home prices rose in July across South Florida and 19 other major metro areas nationwide as economic growth continues to drive the housing market, a new report shows. "Both the housing sector and the economy continue to expand with home prices continuing to rise at about a 5% annual rate," says David M. Blitzer, Managing Director and Chairman of the Index Committee at S&P Dow Jones Indices. He added, "There is no reason to fear that another massive collapse is around the corner." Red tide killing fish at Florida beaches

The annual red tide in the Gulf of Mexico has already started killing thousands of fish and had been driving away beach tourists. Florida's Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission announced that there have already been "naturally occurring" red tide algae blooms in three different counties in the west coast. Sarasota's Marina Jack merges with Dallas company

Marina Jack's parent company has merged with Dallas-based Suntex Marinas. Operations at the marina and restaurants on the bayfront property owned by the city of Sarasota are expected to continue normally, said Marlon Brown, deputy city manager. Marina Jack Holdings and affiliates of SRS Holdings are the parent companies of Marina Jack and Oleary’s Tiki Bar in downtown Sarasota; as well as Bayfront Yacht Works & Marina, Bayfront Excursions and Turtle Beach Grill on south Siesta Key, Florida. SunTrax test facility Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Secretary Jim Boxold announced a long-term partnership between FDOT and Florida Polytechnic University to construct the new, state-of-the-art transportation technology testing facility, SunTrax.
