Florida construction employment drops in August

Florida lost construction jobs from July to August, with a national trade group saying one of the possible culprits is the continued difficulty businesses are having in finding skilled labor. It was a small decline in the Sunshine State — 1,200 jobs, or a 0.3 percentage point — but it was reflected across other parts of the nation. Worst-case citrus scenarios explored

Florida orange production could sink by another two-thirds in the next 10 years if better solutions to the fatal bacterial disease citrus greening don’t arise. That’s the worst-case scenario presented Tuesday to the Florida Citrus Commission in a new, long-term citrus production forecast by Marisa Zansler, chief economist at the Florida Department of Citrus. Florida doctors moving from small to large practices at rapid pace

The movement toward consolidation of practices started a few decades ago, but between 2013 to 2015 it picked up its pace significantly. In Florida, the shift from small practices to large ones was about 3 percent, which is lower than the national average of about 5 percent. [Source: Orlando Sentinel]

Three-fourths of all Florida banks 'recommended' as troubled banks dwindle

Florida has come a long way from the Great Recession era when it was leading the country in bank failures and a fourth of all its banks were severely troubled. About 75 percent of banks statewide made the "recommended" cut in Bauer Financial's latest ratings update. [Source: Tampa Bay Times]
