Gov. Scott warns of travel, Zika in Hermine aftermath

Hours after Hurricane Hermine hit parts of Florida, Governor Rick Scott warned residents to stay safe from debris and help avoid the spread of the Zika virus. As for those in the affected communities, Scott said special forces are conducting search and rescue missions – especially along the hardest hit areas in the Gulf coast. Gov. Nearly two-thirds of Florida workers earn less than state average

The bulk of Florida workers, 65 percent, make below the state average annual salary of just over $39,000, according to the annual “State of Working Florida” report produced by Florida International University. Download the FIU report here. More from the Orlando Sentinel and the Tampa Bay Times.

Citizens 'takeout' focus shifts to riskier coastal properties

Efforts to shrink state-run Citizens Property Insurance Corp. continue, even though the state-run "insurer of last resort" is about one-third as large as it was in 2012. Citizens remains the tri-county region's largest insurer with 231,633 personal residential policies at the end of March. More from the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

UCF technology for killing metastatic breast cancer cells discovered, licensed

GE acquires Jacksonville transportation technology company

GE Transportation acquired ShipXpress, a Neptune Beach-based supply chain technology company this week. ShipXpress provides cloud-based solutions for transportation and industrial businesses. More from the Jacksonville Business Journal.

Schmidt College of Medicine has received initial accreditation from the national Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) for University-sponsored residency programs in general surgery and emergency medicine, in collaboration with its member teaching hospitals in the FAU College of Medicine Graduate Medical Education (GME) Consortium.
