Tropical Storm Hermine forms, emergency declared

The meandering weather system in the Gulf has finally gained tropical storm status, earning the name Hermine. A state of emergency has been declared for 42 counties in north and central Florida, and officials warned that potentially serious impacts are ahead for the northern part of the state. Chico's FAS cuts 200 jobs in Fort Myers

Fort Myers-based Chico’s FAS is cutting 200 positions at its corporate headquarters as it restructures, the company disclosed Tuesday in its earnings release. Chico’s FAS announced its second quarter results after markets closed Tuesday. The company reported net income of $23 million, or 17 cents per share. More from the Fort Myers News-Press and WBBH.

South Florida bank is most profitable in the state

For the second quarter in a row, a South Florida bank was the most profitable in the state. Miami Lakes-based BankUnited reported a $60.7 million profit in the second quarter of 2016, beating out 151 other Florida-based banks. More from the South Florida Business Journal.
