Florida Businesses Created More Than 26,000 New Jobs in July
Today, Governor Rick Scott announced that Florida businesses created 26,500 private-sector jobs across the state during July 2016, bringing the total number of jobs created in 2016 to 135,900. Florida’s annual job growth rate of 3.3 percent is also exceeding the nation’s rate of 1.9 percent, for the 52nd consecutive month. Since December 2010, 1,160,700 private-sector jobs have been created in Florida. The state’s unemployment rate remained at 4.7 percent in July, the lowest rate since November 2007.
Governor Rick Scott said, “I am proud to announce today that Florida businesses created more than 26,000 new jobs last month. Florida’s private sector job growth rate has also outpaced the nation for more than four years and we are clearly sending a message across the country that our state is the best place for businesses and families to succeed. We will continue to do all we can to support job creators so Florida can become first in nation for jobs.”
Cissy Proctor, Executive Director of the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, said, “Florida’s economy continues to flourish, adding thousands of jobs each month even while other states lose jobs. Our strong job openings show that new opportunities are plentiful, and now is a great time to find your dream job in Florida.”
Other positive economic indicators include:
- Private-sector industries gaining the most jobs over the month in July were professional and business services with 12,100 new jobs; education and health services with 4,900 new jobs; and leisure and hospitality with 4,500 new jobs.
- Florida job postings showed 253,146 openings in July 2016.
- In July, Florida’s 24 regional workforce boards reported more than 31,340 Floridians, including 1,513 veterans, were placed in jobs.
- June’s employment numbers were also revised up in July to 13,400 new jobs.
