Boca Raton-based Geo Group's stock plummets after Fed says it will phase out private prisons

Shares in GEO Group Inc. in Boca Raton plummeted Thursday after the Obama administration said it will phase out its contracts with private prisons, affecting thousands of federal inmates. Geo Group's shares were down as much as 42.7 percent after the announcement. The company employs 15,000 people, and is one of just three companies nationally that operates private prisons for the federal government. More from WLRN, the Palm Beach Post and Bloomberg.

Florida health care centers receive $4.6 million for renovations

Health care centers across Florida were collectively awarded more than $4.6 million in funding Thursday to expand and improve quality, infrastructure and primary care service. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced the awards, which come from the Affordable Care Act’s Community Health Center Fund.[Source: South Florida Business Journal]
