State asked to ok nearly 20 percent insurance rate hike for businesses

Florida regulators are being asked to approve a nearly 20 percent rate hike in insurance premiums paid by the state’s business owners to cover their employees. The organization that submits rate filings on behalf of insurance companies filed the request Friday in response to a recent state Supreme Court decision. New Florida boating law goes into effect

New legislation went into effect over the holiday weekend that is aimed at saving the lives of boaters if they get caught in an emergency. The law states that if a boat is equipped with an emergency position indicating radio beacon or if a boat owner owns a personal locator beacon, their vessel registration fees would be discounted.
