Executive pay: How South Florida CEOs stack up
An analysis of Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) filings by 26 public companies with headquarters in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties shows that just half of them paid their chief executive officers more last year than in 2014. Analysis by the Miami Herald and Global Governance Advisors (GGA) also shows that CEO pay slid at some of South Florida’s biggest and best-known companies, including AutoNation, Lennar, Royal Caribbean and Ryder. Orange County raised more than $226 million by taxing hotel stays during its last fiscal year. The county’s yearly take is growing so rapidly — 60% since 2009 — that local officials expect to pay off existing debt obligations years ahead of schedule. That has set off a political fight over what to do with the extra money after the debt is retired.
