Gov. Scott signs 20 bills into law

Gov. Rick Scott signed 20 bills into law, including a massive education bill that will let public school students attend any school in the state that has space available.

An excerpt from HB 7029 that pertains to school choice:

(6) EDUCATIONAL CHOICE.
-- (a) Public educational school choices.--Parents of public school students may seek any public educational school choice options that are applicable and available to students throughout the state. These options may include controlled open enrollment, single-gender programs, lab schools, virtual instruction programs, charter schools, charter technical career centers, magnet schools, alternative schools, special programs, auditory-oral education programs, advanced placement, dual enrollment, International Baccalaureate...

The education bill, HB 7029, increases school choice in Florida. It allows parents to seek a spot for their child in another school district, another county. But, the new school must have room, parents must provide transportation and the student must not be under an expulsion or suspension order. » See a list of all the latest laws here.
