Obama nominates Judge Merrick Garland to Supreme Court

President Barack Obama today nominated federal appeals court judge Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court, challenging Republicans to reject a long-time jurist and former prosecutor known as a consensus builder. Considered a moderate, Garland, 63, is currently chief judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.
