U.S. economy slows in third quarter

The world's largest economy grew at a slower pace between July and September because exports and private inventory investment dropped. But crucial consumer spending remained strong, bolstering expansion. More from Reuters, Bloomberg, and the AP.

UF and FSU partner on $17.5 million NIH grant

The University of Florida Clinical and Translational Science Institute has been awarded $17.5 million from the National Institutes of Health’s Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA, program) to continue to pave the way for a swifter and more collaborative journey from research to improved health in the nation’s third largest state. Winn-Dixie to cut prices on many staple items

Jacksonville-based Winn-Dixie said Wednesday that customer surveys have prompted the 518-store grocery chain to lower prices permanently on items such as toilet paper, cereal, mayonnaise and others. More at the Orlando Sentinel.

South Florida hospitals rated safer than state, nation

Safety grades for South Florida's hospitals improved significantly in a new report by The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit group aimed at boosting health system safety, quality and value nationwide. More at the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

More wineries opening in Florida as citrus industry wanes

According to federal statistics, 879 million gallons of still wine were produced last year including 1.9 million gallons by Florida wine makers. That makes Florida the country’s ninth largest wine producer. More at the AP.
